Korea Republic now in spotlight

Fifa delegates flew into Korea Republic on Thursday as the country's bid for the World Cup gathered pace

After visiting Japan, Chilean Football Federation boss Harold Mayne-Nicholls and his team will now inspect facilities across the Sea of Japan.

The Asian neighbours co-hosted the 2002 tournament, but have launched rival bids for the 2022 tournament.

Australia and Qatar are also in the running.

Mayne-Nicholls will oversee a four-day visit, with Korea Republic intent on emphasising three key areas.

They are a 'can do spirit', the use of the country's technological resources and its experience of previously hosting international events, and the promotion of peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Among those on Korea Republic's bid committee are former foreign minister Han Sunj-joo and former ambassador to the UN, Dae Won-suh.
